Risper Faith

Pulse: Your Instagram bio has noticeably changed from a year back, at one point reading 'Born Again'. So you got saved?

Risper Faith: Yes, I did, on November 2, 2014 at the New Breed Chapel along Kimabu Road. I felt God wanted me to and I do not regret the decision.

P: That is very interesting considering the hype and controversy you have courted since you joined showbiz. Was there any particular incident that led to this?

RF: It all goes back to the road accident I was involved in August 2014. After the crash, I kept wondering why I survived and with fewer injuries as compared to the rest. I figured God has a higher purpose for me. In the weeks leading to November, I had even started going to church.

P: But there were some nudes that were released, ironically, during the Christmas period?

RF: I tell you, 2014 was the most difficult year of my life. I had saved those nudes on my phone for a very long time. The phone got lost and whoever found it contacted me, saying they would release the nudes if I did not give them Sh100, 000. I told them to do whatever they wanted and they released the first batch on Christmas day. They released another a few days later and I reported the matter to the police.

P: It must have been a difficult festive period then?

RF: Oh yes, I was at a hotel in Mombasa and I never went out as I usually do. There was a lot of soul-searching going on. And it was not about showbiz or the accident alone, even my dating life.

P: What do you mean, in your dating life?

RF: Let me just say, I was in an abusive relationship that was not healthy at all. The man was controlling, not reasonable and took me for a kid. He did not like my hustle and discouraged me from going out.

P: Should I make any conclusion from the fact that you are describing the relationship in the past tense?

RF: Yes, I moved on after a while. He was a religious person and helped me in that aspect, but overall, he was just too overbearing.

P: So are you free, single and ready to mingle?

RF: No. I am with someone special, who is very caring and loving. People should expect much more from us this year. That is all I can say for now because he is a private person.

P: Most socialites reveal everything else except their dating details and that has led to the masses branding them as overrated prostitutes. What is the truth here?

RF: I do not know about the others because I have always been in stable relationships. These are men who know what I do and most are comfortable with it. I do not pose with them or reveal their details because that is a part of my life which is private.

P: How is life different now that you are saved?

RF: It is very different. I gave up drinking and other worldly pleasures. I don't attend most events like I used to and now my hustle is more purposeful. I am also more cautious with the pictures I post.

P: Oh, so you still host entertainment events?

RF: Man has to live and that is my hustle. I just cut down on the events I appear in and I try to mingle with a more mature crowd. I currently make an appearance at Ozone Lounge in Lavington midweek and at Skyluxx every two months.

P: Apart from making appearances at events and posting photos, what don't people know that takes place behind the scenes?

RF: There are men with money who will offer you anything to sleep with you... some very influential people in this country. I have been offered trips abroad to shop, cars and some have offered to rent posh houses for me just so we can date. I have had to change my phone number several times because men send all kinds of nude pictures to me.

P: The last time we talked, you insinuated that showbiz was too much and you were thinking of quitting entirely...

RF: One needs to have a thick skin. Most of the men posing as fans out there just want sex... and to tarnish one's name. The rest want to take advantage of you financially, especially club managers and promoters. I have been swindled enough times. Also, the girls who hang around you can easily backbite or sell you out. It is difficult to know who is genuine and who is just riding along to earn from you. Showbiz is a hard life I have come to discover.

P: Since you started, how much do you think you have made and how much do you earn?

RF: Currently, I take home not less than Sh60,000 every week from events. In total, I've made more than Sh1m. I have a salon, a car wash business and a Kitenge shop, all along Kiambu Road.

P: What is the plan for 2015?

RF: I am finally graduating from MKU in June. I am also looking forward to enriching my life in Christ and episodes like what happened with Blaqy are dead and buried.
