Jack Wilshere has been given an all-clear after his injury scare - but is still set to miss Arsenal's Champions League showdown with Borussia Dortmund.

Wilshere suffered an ankle injury in the Gunners’ defeat to Manchester United but X-rays have shown there was no break but the England midfielder has got potential ligament damage.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Wilshere “has very little chance” of facing Dortmund on Wednesday while Wojciech Szczesny’s hip injury is not serious but is also likely to force him out of the game.

It comes as Manchester United’s left-back Luke Shaw is facing a lay-off after leaving the Emirates on crutches with his foot in a surgical boot.

But there was relief for Arsenal ahead of another crunch Champions League game even if their fans enraged the United bench during a bust-up with home supporters.

An Arsenal fan was accused of throwing red wine at the the United bench during angry scenes after the opening goal and it left United substitute Darren Fletcher incensed as he got up and confronted home supporters. Arsenal officials confirmed that a supporter had been arrested.

Former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson complained in 2008 about a lack of security around the bench following another confrontation. Arsenal promised to improve security.

Ferguson, talking in November 2008, said: “Last year was pretty unsavoury.

"In fact, I think it was nasty. It is too open for my liking. It should not happen when you build a modern stadium. You need tin helmets.

“It is a weakness in the planning that you don’t provide safety for the visiting substitutes and staff.”
