Tusker coach Francis Kimanzi and kit manager Charles Waititu got away with a slap on the wrist despite being found guilty of confronting and verbally abusing center referee George Mwai .
This happened during the club’s league match against Nakuru All Stars at Afraha Stadium on July 2.
The two officials appeared before the league’s independent disciplinary committee where Kimanzi conceded to among other things, entering playing surface of the field, raising his voice against the referee and verbally accusing him, while the team’s kit manager was found guilty of verbally threatening a match official.
In a statement, the disciplinary committee said Kimanzi , accepted his misdeeds and apologised to disciplinary committee who just censured him and agreed that he will be spared any further punishment.
The committee cautioned Kimanzi to maintain good conduct for the remainder of the season or face punishment.
“The committee wishes to commend coach Francis Kimanzi and Charles Waititu for their humble approach to charges and entire proceedings.
“However, in the event that they are charged with similar occurrence during the 2014 season, they shall upon being found guilty serve a two-match suspension or further orders that may be found necessary,” the committee said in its ruling released on Friday and posted on the KPL website.
Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson and his AFC Leopards’ counterpart Pieter De Jongh are also set to appear before the committee to answer to various charges of misconduct.
The two coaches have time and again complained against poor officiating in a way that is viewed as misconduct.
AFC Leopards Secretary General George Aladwa has also been asked to appear before the committee this week to answer charges of abusing a match official.
The Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee is the tribunal for resolving disputes in the game of football managed under the auspices of the KPL.
