Mwamba RFC have a perfect chance to revenge last year’s Safaricom Kabeberi Sevens final defeat to Homeboyz RFC when the two sides clash in what is expected to be an exciting quarter final, at the Nairobi Railways Club, today.

Kulabu kicked-off the tournament with a 42-0 thrashing of a depleted Eldoret RFC in a Pool C encounter, then beat Nondies 26-12 before wrapping up the day with a 12-17 victory over Strathmore University.

Ben Nyambu and Teddy Salano scored Nondies’ tries with Shaban Ahmed’s brace, Peter Kepha and Joseph Oriwa’s tries securing a 26-12 win for Mwamba.

Mwamba coach John Mbayi said he’s impressed with the mixture of youth and experience in his squad heading into the knock-out stages as they seek revenge against Homeboyz.

Both the young and experienced players have gelled very well and my expectation is to have a good season. We must return to our winning ways and reach the final.

“We are not here to participate but compete as quarter-final presents a good opportunity to revenge last year’s final defeat,” said Mbayi.

But for Homeboyz Team Manager Oscar Mango, said they are out to defend the title. “The competition is very stiff, but we are ready to retain the title. Quarters is always a critical stage, but from the way we are playing, we are ready to face any opponent,” he said.

Although Kenya Harlequins coach Sidney Obonyo is aware of what lies ahead as his side take on surprise package Catholic University in another quarter-final, the tactician has set his sights on the final.

“We are going for nothing short of gold. We made a few mistakes, but we recovered very well and I’m confident the boys will make us proud,” Obonyo said Obonyo.

In the other quarter finals, Impala will lock horns with Strathmore as national circuit defending champions KCB face Nakuru.
