Kenya sprint team delayed for 17 hours in Dubai

Kenyan sprint team to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, got delayed in Dubai for 17 hours over flight connection hitches.

James Chacha, the Team Kenya executive officer, confirmed that the squad that departed Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Thursday afternoon aboard Emirates Airline delayed in Dubai.

"They were set to spend the night in Dubai, but flight connection caused them some delays before proceeding to Glasgow. It had nothing to do with the bookings," said Chacha.

At the same time, the cycling team that did not travel over accreditation problems can now breathe a sigh of relief – at least for now.

Two-time Commonwealth Games cyclists David Kinja, newcomers Doreen Musoliza, Mary Mburu and Caroline Ondiege alongside officials Julius Mwangi and Samson Okuto from the disability team were left behind on Thursday when their team mates departed for Glasgow because their accreditation were not entered in the Games data base.

Chacha said the Steering Committee will hold a meeting tomorrow to deliberate on their departure.

"Their names did not feature in the accreditation system since they were late entrants. The Steering Committee will meet on Sunday to discuss their case, but I am sure they will travel. We have already applied visas for them and will get accredited in Glasgow," he said.

Chacha went on: "The deadline for accreditation was on June 6 and their federation did not submit their names early. But we have advised them to continue training. It's not so complex."
