Shocking revelation of kinship ties deals marriage arrangement big blow

Counties

During mate selection, prospective couples are always expected to do a proper background check on each other to avoid inbreeding, which may invite, among others, curses from ancestors.

Two lovers from Naivasha, Nakuru County, however, chose to ignore this very important dictum and are bitterly regretting their recklessness. This is after what was supposed to be an exciting introductory meeting between their families last weekend, with the hope of getting married next year, ended unceremoniously after it was discovered the two love birds are actually distant relatives.

Revelation that there exists kinship ties between the two love birds were so shocking that the would-be wife collapsed into a heap and fainted, forcing women in attendance to administer to her first aid.

When the young man, surnamed Kuria met his sweetheart, only identified as Jane over three years ago, he could not resist her bewitching beauty. Like any normal single man, he earnestly made his intention know and began making inroads into her heart. After a few weeks of playing hard to get, as most pretty women are wont, the equally smitten Jane gave in to Kuria’s advances and they hit it off. They called it love.

brother marrying sister

With their love blossoming every passing day, the madly in-love couple decided to take things to another level — marriage. Curious to introduce his sweetheart to his parents and express intentions to marry her as tradition and convention dictates, Kuria arranged an elaborate introductory ceremony.

“He has been a son to us, so we had converged at his father’s home to celebrate and witness his preliminary phase of becoming a husband,” said John Kariuki, a kin to Kuria who was at the ceremony. According to the relative, drama began when the guests from the bride’s side arrived at the homestead.

“We had set up everything as required, but hardly had the guests settled in the home than the groom’s father sunk in his seat, cupping his hand over his mouth in shock,” said Kariuki.

The old man’s expression of shock threw his kin in panic, prompting them to pull him a side for a chat. It was here that the worst was confirmed. Confirmation that his estranged wife, whom he separated from over two decades ago because of irreconcilable differences while living in Eldoret, was his prospective in-law was unpalatable news.

Apparently, so nasty was the separation that she denied him custody and access to the only child they had before she got married elsewhere.

The equally shocked woman could not believe the paradox. All of a sudden the palpable excitement that had rent the air died almost instantly when news spread. It was unanimously agreed that neither the ceremony nor marriage would go on. “That it was tantamount to a brother marrying his sister, however distant they are,” said Kariuki. Those in attendance left as they discussed the matter in hushed tones. It was not immediately established what will become of the two love birds.
