Southampton ready to rescue Chambers from Arsenal

Southampton are ready to offer former academy ace Calum Chambers a refuge from his Arsenal hell.

England international Chambers, 21, left Saints for the Gunners two years ago, but is set to return to the south coast on loan after failing to start a Premier League game last season.

Ronald Koeman is keen to boost his team, in particular his back line, with a challenging Europa League schedule testing his squad.

The Dutchman sent scouts to watch the defender star in the Three Lions’ under 21 Toulon Tournament success last week as he ticks boxes at both centre back and right back.

Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger is a big fan of Chambers, after spending £16m on him, but has admitted he cannot offer him regular first team football next season.
