China, France to take part in Mombasa cultural event

MOMBASA: Two foreign cultural troupes have confirmed participation in the forthcoming second edition of the Mombasa International Cultural Festival.

The Chinese and French delegations are expected in town before the festival that kicks off on August 14, reports indicate.

The French troupe will come from the country's Indian Ocean island of Mayotte.

Speaking in at his office yesterday, Mombasa County Executive for tourism Joab Tumbo said the event that ends on August 23 will showcase diverse cultures.

''We are all set to host this event that has become an annual one and hope to turn around the fortunes of a vibrant Mombasa using culture,'' Mr Tumbo said.

The official opening ceremony, according to Tumbo, will be a Madafu cocktail to be held at the historical Fort Jesus Museum on the first day.

It will be followed by a series of other activities like beach sports at the popular Jomo Kenyatta public beach .

There will be a county tourism expo showcasing what the 47 Kenyan counties have to offer in terms of tourism, culture and trade.
