Some 19,000 students who qualified for admission to public universities  and colleges are yet to get placement, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) has said.

This means that only 48,000 students have secured places in the institutions as a total of 67,000 students who sat their Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education examination in 2014 qualified for placement.

KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer John Muraguri, however, said the students who missed out have two weeks to revise the courses they applied for.

He, however, said all the vacancies at the Kenya Medical College (KMTC), Kibabii and Kagumo Teachers Training Colleges (TTC) and Kenya Technical Teachers Training College (KTTC) have all been filled.

"We have opened the website for the process and it shall close on June 20, 2015," said Muraguri.

He said the candidates who were not placed are those who applied for admission when in secondary school but failed to revise their courses in the first round of the exercise.

"It also includes those candidates who did not apply at all, but made the mark based on the cut off points set by KUCCPS," he said.

He continued: "This is the last chance for them to make revisions. And for those who fail to get admissions during this exercise, we shall look at what is remaining and place them according to their qualifications," said Muraguri.

According to KUCCPS University of Nairobi still has 1,154 unfilled slots of which 611 are for the Bachelor of Arts programme.

Kenyatta University has 632 vacancies 85 of which are in Bachelor of Science (community resource management) department.

Kenyatta University had declared an overall capacity of 5,942. If wholly taken up, this would be the highest number of student's admissions per university this year.

Moi University also requires some 1,482 students. Of these, Bachelor of Arts programme has the highest slots (374), followed by Bachelor of Arts, Education, (284).

The university had declared an overall capacity of 5, 825.

Egerton University also has some 1,377 free slots and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology requires 451 students more. The university had declared a total capacity of 3, 567.
