Report graft in hiring, Teachers Service Commission urges

Murang’a, Kenya: The Teachers Service Commission has called on the public to report corruption during the forthcoming teachers' recruitment to ensure fairness.

Murang’a County TSC Director Ibrahim Adan yesterday asked Kenyans to be vigilant and interrogate the hiring exercise.

Speaking to The Standard in his office, Adan advised teacher trainees to hand in their applications personally to the relevant offices and avoid being misled by emissaries.

"We are encouraging trained teachers to submit their application letters personally at the nearest TSC offices in the sub-counties. The applicants will be given registration number to enable their participation in the recruitment exercise," he said.

He said the exercise will follow regulations set by the commission to enhance transparency and accountability.

Applicants for secondary schools slots, he said, are also encouraged to report to his office if they suspect foul play during the recruitment exercise.

Sixty one teachers will replace those who have left the service through natural attrition. Murang'a County has been allocated 339 slots for both primary and secondary schools.

Recruitment guidelines for primary teachers indicate that applicants will be assessed on academic certificates, the score obtained as per the panel's score sheet and age of the applicant.
