Interdicted OCS wants job

Mombasa, Kenya: An interdicted police officer is challenging her removal from office by Mombasa County Police Commander Robert Kitur for allegedly setting four suspects free when she acted as Makupa police station OCS last year.

Ms Zeleah Akiru was interdicted last December after allegedly releasing the suspects two days after their arrest at Sakina Mosque. She wants her interdiction nullified saying the commander acted illegally. But yesterday Kitur told court that Akiru was interdicted for disobeying his orders. The court heard that deputy OCPD for Makupa David Okoth called kitur later that day to inform him that though the court had allowed the suspects to be detained for four days they had been freed on cash bail.
