Sh54m to benefit TVET students

The Government has allocated Sh54.3 million to support students in technical institutes as it emphasises the need for technical skills in the country.

Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) CEO Charles Ringera has, therefore, urged parents to consider enrolling their children in technical colleges.

“The employment rate of graduates from technical institutes stands at 96 to 100 per cent compared to the university rate, which is slightly lower at 44 per cent,” said Mr Ringera.

He was speaking at the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) in Eldoret during the official opening of the third international conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The Commonwealth Association of Polytechnics in Africa (Capa) Secretary-General Olubunmi Owoso said TVET’s major function was to ensure promotion of capacity development across the member countries.

Dr Owoso said the association works with all institutes registered under TVET to promote exchange and proper dissemination of information.
