Bongo musician fears for his life after being caught with politician's wife

City News

Hussein Machozi

Mellow-voiced Bongo musician, Hussein Rashid Maaarufu, better known as Hussein Machozi, almost lost his life when a politician and his friends reportedly attacked him in a club, beat him to a pulp and tore his clothes to shreds; after he was allegedly  caught pants down with the politician’s wife in a  Mombasa hotel.

It is alleged that the Bongo singer and the woman, who escaped in a taxi, routinely sneaked into the hotel and stayed indoors for hours whenever Machozi visits from Tanzania.

The mheshimiwa supposedly got wind of his wife’s escapades with the musician and laid a trap. Business at the hotel is said to have momentarily come to a standstill following the supposed altercation that ensued.

Apparently, the husband got the secret lovebirds in the hotel’s room and immediately set upon the musician.

Ironically, Machozi’s hit song, ‘Kaffia Ghetto,’ is about a lover whose partner dies in a room.

Contacted by The Nairobian, the musician said he would have wanted to share his side of the story but feared for his life.

“I have a lot to say in my defense, but I am concerned about my safety,” he claimed. Pressed to either refute or admit the claims, he declined to comment, saying it wasn’t the right time.

“I have been warned by my promoters against speaking to the press, but I will do so at the right time,” he offered.

Rumours have it that the woman and Machozi have been secret lovers for long and that he had been warned against the affair.

After the alleged beating, Machozi apparently went to the Coast General Hospital for treatment and was discharged the same day.

The Nairobian was told he appeared thoroughly roughed up and shaken.

Machozi reportedly confirmed the fracas at the popular resort to a friend.

“When I called him, he told me he had been roughed up by goons, but did not offer any other details, promising to call later with the full story. But he later switched off his cellphone,” a close friend confided.

It then shortly emerged that Machozi’s marriage to Shu Yunus Maarufu, his Kenyan wife who works at the Mombasa County Government, is apparently going through a rocky phase.

Machozi was in the country for a campus radio show slotted for July 26, but organisers of the event reportedly requested that the saga be kept under wraps to avoid compromising the show.
