NAIROBI: The KCB Foundation has committed at least Sh30million to support the livestock sector in Kwale County. This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Foundation and Kwale County government on Wednesday that is expected to propel the sector to commercialisation in the next five years. The joint partnership is part of the Mifugo ni Mali livestock project, which the Foundation has been implementing to empower farmers from Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) reap maximum returns from their produce. “We will utilise the funds to empower livestock farmers with skills and knowledge in improving productivity,” said KCB Foundation Chairman Catherine Kola. Speaking during the partnership launch, Kwale County Governor Salim Mvurya expressed confidence in the programme, stating that it will transform the livestock sector to growth, competitiveness and sustainability.
