Residents differ over Sh13 billion Kinangop Wind Park project

NAIVASHA, KENYA: The Sh138 billion Kinangop Wind Park (KWP) hangs in the balance after area leaders differed over the 61mw project.
A meeting called to address the project in Magumu Kinangop ended in confusion on Wednesday with area residents totally rejecting plans to erect wind vanes in their farms.
Following the move, Kinangop MP Stephen Kinyanjui and his Naivasha counterpart John Kihagi accused three MCAs from Kinangop and Naivasha for the current impasse.
Trouble started after the management of the company and the leaders called for meeting in Magumu center to address communities affected by the project.
The meeting that was chaired by Nyandarua Senator Engineer Muriuki Karue saw over 600 farmers attend though around 100 affected persons had been invited.
The farmers booed several leaders accusing them of forcing the project onto them and vowed that they would not support it.
