MOMBASA, KENYA: A KK security guard has disappeared with Sh 21.6 million which was on transit to the company’s headquarters in Nairobi.
The police said the suspect who was traveling alone after being entrusted with the colossal amount of money left Moi International Airport aboard Kenya Airways at 4 pm on Thursday but was never seen after arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The money was in US currency and police have reported that the suspect was escorted to the airport by armed police who did not accompany him aboard.
Moi International Airport police boss Mr Charles Okweya confirmed the incident and said they were looking for the suspect.
The suspect Mr Julius Rotich , the police said was escorted to the airport by police officer and on arrival he checked in and later flew to Nairobi.
Okweya said the suspect who was alone while boarding the plane landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 4.45 but never got in touch with his colleagues who were waiting for him at the airport.
His bosses have reported that the suspects who left Mombasa last Friday evening was expected to hand over the money to his bosses on the same day has not been seen.
“We are looking for this man and anybody with information where he is should inform the police for immediate arrest,” said Okweya.
Okweya warned security guards against sending junior officers with such big amount because they can be easily tempted to steal it.
He said the man has not been found because he switched off his phone since he left Mombasa showing he must have disappeared using a different route.
