Governor Alfred Mutua has promised residents a more efficient, people-focused, and responsive administration in his second and final term in office.

Dr Mutua has also extended a hand to his political opponents, urging them to set aside their differences and work for the good of the people. The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader successfully defended his seat in last week's General Election.

Mutua garnered 244,061 votes against his fiercest opponent, former Kathiani MP, Wavinya Ndeti, who received 204,662 votes.

Speaking to journalists shortly after receiving his provisional certificate at the weekend, the governor said he would transform Machakos into a first-world economy by implementing a raft of plans captured in his 2017-2022 manifesto.

"I want to assure the people of Machakos that my administration will waste no time. Ours is to settle down and proceed with the key business of serving our people and providing an environment for new opportunities that will transform their livelihoods," he said.

Mutua, who has declared an interest in running for the presidency in 2022, vowed to make Machakos a 'point of reference' which other counties and governments in the region would benchmark.

"We will set up the new Machakos city, whose progress had been frustrated," he said.
