Governor aspirant refutes claims of sham party nominations

Management consultant Kithinji Kiragu, who floored Cyrus Njiru to clinch the Party of National Unity (PNU) ticket for the governor's race has refuted claims that the exercise was marred by irregularities.

Mr Kiragu won 10,008 votes against Mr Njiru's 1,148 and said the electoral officials conducted fair and credible polls under the prevailing circumstances.

He said even though there were some hiccups during the elections, the results reflected the will of the people and put PNU on the path to winning in the August 8 elections.

"PNU held the best elections possible under the prevailing circumstances where ballots boxes arrived late. We have to understand the party is not endowed with resources; otherwise I would have preferred electronic voting," he said adding that repeat polls would not yield different results.
