It is a proud moment for KTN News and the entire Standard Group family. They shot for the sky and surely, they are there.

The sweat, the struggles and the perseverance that went into the execution of the special assignment dubbed ‘Terror Crossing’, have paid off. Asha Mwilu and Rashid Iddi’s crew did not labour in vain.

It is no mean feat to beat 1,000 entrants and win the CNN African Journalist of the Year Award. Their win is testimony of Kenya’s high quality journalism.

The duo was part of a crew that travelled to the dangerous border zone in Mandera County and staked out the ongoings, risking their safety to tell the story.

Asha and Rashid exemplify KTN News’ skills and hard-won reputation as Kenya’s leading broadcasting channel on investigative news. Hardly a year since the launch of Kenya’s and East Africa’s only 24-hour news channel, this award is indeed a remarkable achievement.

The CNN African Journalists Awards’ judging panel recognised Terror Crossing as an in-depth investigative documentary and noted its huge impact as a story that generated intense public debate.

This award provides not only the KTN fraternity with a global platform to spread the message further, but to the Standard Group as well.

Hongera KTN!
