It doesn’t have to always be a big project to get that house looking all new. Paint jobs, new floors, new furniture all break the bank. There are several clever ways to revamp a home without buying anything new. Below are a few ways to get that home looking all new on a shoestring budget.

Declutter

Your space may be overloaded with unwanted stuff. Having too many pieces that you have had for a long time tends to wear you out. Walk through every room and edit, edit, edit! If you don’t need it or you haven’t used it in recent times, because you either outgrew it or it was a gift you did not like, put it in the ‘to donate’ or ‘sell online’ corner.

Trick the eye

It’s all in the eyes. Find beautiful ways to sort out messier parts of your house. Ugly electronic cords hanging all over the media area? How about a huge dramatic art to cover the mess while keeping it pretty? You can hide cords by lining smaller pieces of art next to each other against the wall. Stacking those extra books that you have nowhere to put will also cover the cords ingeniously.

If you want to trick your eye into seeing an organized bookshelf, color-coordinate your books. Other objects arranged by color give a feel of cohesiveness, symmetry and also make the bookshelf seem bigger than it is. You might be tempted to arrange your books by genre or author but looking at different colored spines may give you a design headache.

If you live in a house with a fireplace that you do not use, do not just let that architectural feature lie there. Make your eyes believe that your fireplace is actually functional. Decorate above the mantle with candles, art or a mirror. Place a few logs in the pit, even better you can scent the logs so your space smells fresh all year round!

Disorganized jewellery can be an eyesore. Find ways to display your jewellery in a way that it is art at the same time. You can store them in saucers, in a picture frame or in an old wire basket.

Double-duty your furniture

Let every item in your home work overtime. For example, bookshelves were not meant to only go along the wall. Flank a bookshelf behind a sofa to double up as a console. Bookshelves can also be used as room dividers in open floor plan spaces.

Style your coffee table

The coffee table can bring new life to your living room if you take a few minutes to style it. Yes, styling a coffee table is an actual thing – grab two books, a tray or a charger plate, a vase with real or fake flowers, a collectible, a few candles and arrange them on the tray on the coffee table.

It’s all in the display

Put effort in your display. Hang up your art, your children’s doodles, family pictures. Display an old glass or wine bottles together. Group them in threes to make them look better. Add fresh flowers or dried décor sticks.

Move everything around, pillows from the sofa can look new on the beds. Swap your lamps and vases, move your rugs around. An end table a.k.a a stool can also move to the bedside to double up as a nightstand. A bowl from the kitchen can look like a new centerpiece on the dining table.
