It was a sweet revenge as Soccer Queens picked a 2-0 win over Makolanders in a Zone A fixture of the Football Kenya Federation(FKF) Women Premier League clash at Camp Toyoyo, Nairobi, yesterday.

Soccer Queens suffered a 3-1 defeat in their first leg match against Makolanders at the same venue but the script changed in the second leg with Terry Engessa opening the scores in the ninth minute after receiving a cross from Tracy Atieno.

Harambee Starlets midfielder Corazone Aquino headed home the second goal of the match in the 64th minute to extend the lead.

Mombasa-based Spedag too posted a resounding 3-0 win over struggling Gaspo Youth in an early fixture at Camp Toyoyo.

Jacky Ogol scored straight from a corner kick to put the visitors in the lead in the sixth minute before Wendy Achieng made it 2-0 from a free kick on the 15th minute. Sharon Bushenei wrapped up the scores on the 36th minute after a fine cross from Caroline Anyango.

Commenting after the match, Soccer Queens coach said the match was tough giving credit to his charges for the job well done.

“We expected a tough match since we lost in the first leg. With the defeat our girls did well to keep their opponents on toes. We had two away matches in Mombasa last week where we picked four points and the three points here is a plus for us. We didn’t prepare well for this match but I am happy the girls have played their hearts out for the maximum points,” he said.

Soccer Queens seemed a more organised side dominating the proceedings after their first goal with Engessa missing a clear opportunity on the 15th minute.

Makolanders came in strongly four minutes later with Harambee StarletsMmidfielder Jackline Akoth unleashing a long range shot from outside the goal area but Soccer Queens’ custodian Vivian Akinyi who also features for Harambee Starlets was calm at goal as she comfortablycollected the ball.

Soccer Queens dominated the match with yet again Engessa missing a sitter in the 35th minute from Aquino’s sumptuous pass but her shot went wide.

Makolanders’ Akoth was on it again but but her feeble shot from outside the goal area never troubled Akinyi.
