Former champions Kakamega High are two matches away from recapturing their East Africa Secondary Schools rugby 15s title. The Kenyan boys have put up a spirited fight at the ongoing regional games in Eldoret shoving one opponent after the other out of their way as they seek to reclaim the title they last won in 2013.

After thumping national champions Bungoma High 21-9 in their opening match, the four-time East Africa winners edged their counterparts, Moi Sirgoi, 10-9 to bag their second victory. Nine seemed a magical killer-weapon working against their opponents as they fought to another 15-9 victory against Nalyango of Uganda.

Kakamega captain Wiseman Aganya told Feverpitch that they intend to fight harder in their remaining matches so as to achieve their objective. “We can’t afford to make mistakes now. We are here on a mission that we intend to accomplish diligently,” he said.

Aganya, and Felix Odhiambo scored one try each for Kakamega with Marvin Mwaura making one successful conversion while Chrisant Ojwang scored a penalty. Mark Ssemakula was the only scorer for Namilyango gaining nine points from three penalties.

National kings Bungoma also increased their chances of winning this year’s crown bouncing back from their 9-21 loss to Kakamega to trounce Makerere of Uganda 28-0. Their second victory was against compatriots Sirgoi as they narrowly beat them 8-6.

In rugby sevens, Zedden Marrow’s heroics subjected Upper Hill to their first defeat. Marrow led St Peters campaign as they rallied from 12 points down to beat Upper Hill 14-12. Marrow scored 12 points from two tries and a conversion while Tom Maina converted his second effort.

National champions Laiser Hill extended their dominance hammering St Mary’s Kisubi of Uganda 26-0. Laiser Hill have been impressive and remain unbeaten as they seek to win their maiden sevens title having failed to shine in 15s which they won last in Huye, Rwanda.

In netball the Kenyan girls were outshone by their guests as the Ugandans stamped their authority in the sport. Former national champions Obambo suffered their second loss as they went down 18-28 to Kibuli. Home girls Cheptil were also on the receiving end falling 20-64 to champions St Mary’s Kitende also of Uganda.
