Ministry should listen to teachers

It's hard to understand The Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i. He and his Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang are not ready to listen to teachers and even the President.

The latter informed us that burning schools is actually burning the future of this country. Kenya National Union of teachers Secretary General Wilson Sossion requested that all schools be closed on or before August 5.

This will go a long way in enabling school management boards to engage student leaders on the problems facing students. School principals have been ignoring students and even ordinary teachers instead of sharing with them their problems.

Allowing teachers to listen to students after schools are closed will prevent the cases of arson and destruction. Lest we forget, a majority of parents in public schools are poor.

This makes it hard to raise millions of shillings required to put up new dormitories. Let the Education ministry listen to teachers and students to end this catastrophe.
