On the morning of May 17, this year, Ezekiel Nampaso was busy at work when two armed men abducted him.

His employer Paul Somoine says he employed the 26-year-old, three years ago, to work as a herder at his farm in Syokimau, Machakos.

“I was not home when the incident occurred and only received a call at around 2pm informing me that Nampaso had been taken away by two armed men. I immediately took the report to Mlolongo Police Station,” said Somoine, a livestock trader.

He said he reported the incident at the police station under OB46/17/5/2016.

According to Somoine, Nampaso had changed his sim card, two months ago, and the day he was kidnapped is the day he had switched on his old line.

“When he changed his number, I did not think much of it since he was a good person. He had used the old line for just three hours before he was abducted. I now wonder what made him change the number because it seems he had sensed that he was being tracked,” Somoine said.

According to the abductee’s father, Joshua Nampaso from Olposimoru, Narok County, information they got from police is that a woman armed with Nampaso’s photograph had been spotted a day earlier looking for him and his disappearance is linked to her.

“The woman is said to have claimed to be my son’s friend who lost his contacts. His friends gave her his number and the following day she showed up and the abductors came a while later,” Joshua said.

He said police told them that the two men posed as manure buyers before turning on Nampaso and dragging him away.

This is all the information the family has and efforts to find their kin appear to have stalled since the local police do not appear to have any new information.

The latest inquiry the family made was on July 5, this year at Mlolongo Police Station under Inquiry No5/2016.

Joseph Pilale, a relative, who was among the team who went to the police station to inquire on the progress of investigations lamented it has taken too long and the current state of affairs is torturing the family.

“We have inquired at the police station where the incident was reported, we have even proceeded to Machakos County Police Commander but they are telling us investigations are still underway. We need justice done,” Pilale said.

They now want Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett to have his officers move fast in locating their kin; whether dead or alive.

Speaking on the matter, Olposimoru MCA Wilson Ole Masikonde said with the spate of mysterious killings in the country, the police need to assure Kenyans of their security.

“This young man was kidnapped in broad daylight. I have known him since he was a young boy and I know he is an innocent man. It has been two months now and nothing is happening. The family needs to know the fate of their beloved son,” Masikonde said.
