The Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) will take place this Saturday from 9-4pm at Kiambu Institute of Science & Technology (KIST) and seeks to bring together women from all walks of life for a day of learning, inspiration, and mentoring. The initiative will provide an opportunity for female leaders to connect with other leaders and for younger women to initiate strong mentoring relationships.
This inaugural event focuses on three key themes – community, potential and empowerment. WLI will tackle these three leadership themes with a keynote speaker for each theme. WLI’s vision is to enhance and nurture the leadership potential of young women to impact their lives, careers and communities. According to WLI Co-Founder, Dr. Wanjiru Mbure, “Community is central to successful mentoring relationships and we are keen on creating a supportive and positive peer-to-peer environment for all participants.”
Elizabeth Museo Muema, a corporate communications specialist will speak on the theme of Community. Museo’s leadership and community service is evident in her initiative Crotchet Kenya which provides hand-knitted hats for cancer survivors across Kenya. Museo was recently recognized for her leadership by Daystar University Alumni Association (DUAA) which awarded her the Community Service Award in June 2016.
The theme of Potential will focus on the key habits of successful female leaders. Carolyne Gaithuma, a life-coach and life enthusiast will share her personal incredible journey and triumphant battle with depression.
The final theme Empowerment allows conference participants to explore and create their own action plan beyond Saturday’s gathering. To explore empowerment-in-action, the event participants will learn from Marketing, Brand Positioning and Fundraiser expert, Wambui Karanja whose extensive work in youth leadership training and as an avid Rotarian exemplifies leadership in action.
Women attending the event can expect to be challenged, encouraged, and to have a good time. The event is 100% volunteer ran and is co-hosted by Do It For Africa, a social enterprise whose mission is to empower young Africans to do more for Africa, through training and learning opportunities that encourage civic engagement and self improvement.
