Disband IEBC now, Kuresoi South MP Zakayo Cheruiyot tells President Uhuru Kenyatta

Kuresoi South MP Zakayo Cheruiyot

Kuresoi South MP Zakayo Cheruiyot has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of failing to address the uproar over the electoral body by “hiding under the cloak of the Constitution”.

Mr Cheruiyot said that former police boss David Kimayo and EACC commissioners were relieved of their duties, yet the Constitution protected their tenure.

“What is there for the Government in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission? Commissioners of other commissions were sent home. The President must therefore act over IEBC unless the Government has a sinister motive,” he said.

The MP who was speaking at Valley Teachers Training College in Bureti Constituency noted that Kenyans, including the Church, have expressed their reservations over IEBC.

“The President should cease claiming that the Constitution ties his hands. He has to put the country first and act by using the public opinion to disband the commission,” he added.
