The Opposition has written to the Director of Public Prosecutions Keraiko Tobiko demanding an investigation into the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.

CORD also wants Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome investigated over police brutality on protesters.

The leaders also demand that Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaisserry be held responsible over his "reckless remarks" to the effect that the Government would not allow the Opposition to hold anti-electoral commission protests.

CORD's co-ordinating committee bosses, senators James Orengo and Johnstone Muthama, said they want the three prosecuted should they be found culpable of abusing their powers.

Speaking at Capitol Hill in Nairobi yesterday, the leaders said police used excessive force against "peaceful protesters" without any provocation.

The senators said the remarks by Nkaisserry and Koome influenced how the police responded to the protesters, and thus they must take responsibility for the injuries sustained.

"We wish to inform our supporters and the country at large that we have written to the Director of Public Prosecutions asking him to institute investigations into the conduct of the police who, on Monday without any provocation or justifiable and lawful cause, broke up our demonstrations using excessive and lethal force," said Mr Orengo.
