Police in Nyahururu town yesterday confiscated 160 cartons of illicit brew that was being transported to Mararal in Samburu County. Acting on a tip-off, the officers trailed the vehicle transporting the brew before they arrested the driver.

Nyandarua North OCPD Morris Assilah said the vehicle was intercepted along Nyahururu-Rumuruti road. He said the brew by the brand name Dallas Vodka was one of those that had not met the standards set by the Government and was therefore illegal to sell it.

"These are some of the brews that the Government banned and we wonder where the person who was selling it had gotten it from.We will not allow such brews to be sold here and that is why we intercepted it," he said.
Assillah said that police suspected that some of the brews had been sold withing the area.

"There is no way that the suspect can travel all the way from Nairobi to Mararal with only these packets. We suspect that he had been selling it within Nyahururu town and its environs since he is also giving us contradicting information," he noted.

The OCPD said that suspect would be arraigned in court to face charges of selling illicit brews.
