David Silva set to miss Sunday's crunch clash with Tottenham

Manchester City getting ready for champions league action

Manchester City have suffered a fresh injury setback with David Silva the latest player to be sidelined.

Silva hobbled off with a recurrence of an ankle problem towards the end of City’s 3-1 defeat to title rivals Leicester.

The playmaker joins skipper Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne, Jesus Navas, Eliaquim Mangala, Samir Nasri and Wilfried Bony on City’s list of enforced absentees.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini was unable to say how long Silva will be out, but the 30-year-old is likely to miss Sunday’s must-win clash at home to title rivals Tottenham.

Pellegrini said: “He is playing with a lot of pain in his ankle. He twisted it again today, so we will see during the week what will happen to him.

“It’s very difficult to know at this moment [how long Silva will be out].”

Pellegrini admitted his squad has been stretched, with so many injuries leaving him with just 14 established players to pick from.

“We have seven players injured at the moment, especially in the same positions,” said Pellegrini.

“We have two centre-backs, Kompany and Mangala, and in attack we have De Bruyne, Navas, Bony, Nasri and now Silva. That makes it more difficult.”
