Nairobi and Coast regions receive new DCI commanders

NAIROBI: Directorate of Criminal Investigations in new reshuffle; Henry Ondiek moved to Nairobi as Nicholas Kamwende is taken to Mombasa as commander

Nairobi and Coast regions have new Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) commanders in changes announced.

Nicholas Kamwende, the Nairobi County Criminal Investigations Officer swapped positions with Coast’s Henry Ondiek in the changes aimed at checking crime in the regions.

The changes announced on Saturday also saw Uasin Gishu DCI boss Julius Rutere moved to headquarters and named the deputy head of operations and swapped positions with Mr Patrick Kiswii.

Mr Mohamed Amin who had been moved to North Eastern as the CCIO two weeks ago was transferred back to DCI headquarters while Mombasa Urban DCIO William Nanguli was moved to Central, Nairobi in the same position.

The new Mombasa Urban DCIO is Hussein Bakari while deputy Flying Squad head Francis Wanjau will be the DCIO Changamwe division in Mombasa.

Others named include Ali Bule (Eldoret DCIO), Juliana Muthini (Kilindini DCIO) and Betty Chepngeno (Meru South DCIO).

The changes came two weeks after similar ones that saw Samuel Nyabengi was named the head of operations while Gideon Kibunja was promoted to be the Rift Valley coordinator to replace Scavier Mbogo who moved to Railways as the PCIO.

Tom Omani is the new head of forensic department while Patrick Mugo will be the new head of inspections at police headquarters.

Others named in the changes include Vitalis Okumu (deputy Commandant DCI Training School), John Gachomo (Nyanza CCIO), Moses Dindi (complaints DCI), Julius Maritm (Interpol Nairobi), Nicholas Etyang (in charge training DCI headquarters) and Margaret Karanja (Nairobi County).

The changes were announced amid reports they are part of realignments ahead of the general elections next year.
