Women plan to support their own in 2017

County women leaders and activists have vowed to assist female politicians win more seats in next year's General Election.

In the last General Election, many women shied away from most elective posts and chose the county MP seat, which is reserved for them.

They said with better preparation, they can secure posts in the local county assembly, National Assembly and the Senate.

ODM nominated senator, Zuleikha Juma, said apart from the county MP seat, no woman won any other elective post in the 2013 polls.

"It is saddening that all MCAs and MPs elected from this county are men. This time round, we don't want to only have nominated seats but also elected ones," said Ms Zuleikha.

The ODM MP was speaking at a hotel in Diani at meeting that also invited Kaya elders and youth to discuss issues affecting women.

Although many women have shown interest in seeking elective posts in the county, most are going for the one seat reserved for them.

"We have many who want to vie but sadly, we only want woman representative," she said.
