Manchester United face fresh transfer raid from Real Madrid for goalkeeper in the summer

David De Gea will be Real Madrid’s top target in this summer's transfer window, writes Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People.

The Manchester United goalkeeper’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has received confirmation that the La Liga giants will push for his man.

Real will offer United around £23million and hand De Gea a £6.5m signing-on payment to apologise for their botched attempts to sign him last summer.

A move seemed to be done just before the Spanish transfer deadline but it fell apart.

The Red Devils were then criticised in a ten-point statement released by Real.

They were accused of dawdling over contract details before sending incomplete data to FIFA's TMS (Transfer Matching System) far too late for Real to ensure the transfer was completed.

United hit back at the La Liga giants with their own multi-pointed communique that was simultaneously sent out both on social media and via email to a list of journalists.

Spain international De Gea signed a new deal in September that runs until 2019 with the option of another season, but is understood to be keen on a move back to his homeland.

Real confirmed on Friday that the FIFA Appeal Committee has provisionally suspended the two-window transfer ban imposed on them for irregularities with regard to signing players under the age of 18.
