KITALE: A man accused of killing his girlfriend by stabbing her in their Nyayo Embakasi house has been arrested.

Martin Kunguru Opiyo was arrested in Kitale town as he rested in a house by detectives who had been trailing him.

Other versions said he surrendered to police.

Embakasi OCPD Apollo Wanyonyi said the suspect would appear in court Wednesday to take murder plea.

“After he was arrested in Kitale he was brought to Nairobi where he was interrogated before he takes plea on Wednesday,” said Wanyonyi.

Kunguru had been on the run since December 17 when his girlfriend Charity Mukami Wachira, 24 went missing. She was later found dead in their house.

Police said he never responded to his calls and he kept switching his mobile phone after the body of the woman was discovered.

Mukami’s decomposing body was found on December 22, 2015 in their Nyayo Embakasi estate. The body had stayed in the house for almost four days.

Wanyonyi had appealed to Kunguru to surrender to police and explain himself in connection with the death of the mother of one.

Mukami’s body was found in her house almost a week after she had communication with her parents.

Her mobile phones had been going unanswered until yesterday when the parents and neighbors found her body in a residential house in Nyayo Embakasi. Charity ran a small bar in the area.

The body lay naked with blood stains on her bed with some of her clothes strewn allover. Her father Peter Wachira said the last time he talked to her was on December 17.

The woman is said to have secretly married Kunguru. A postmortem exercise on the body showed she had six stab wounds in the neck.

A bad smell that emanated from the house drew their attention that there was something bad therein.

It was then that they contacted police who broke in and discovered the body.

She has since been buried. The family complained they did not know Mukami and Kunguru had been married.
