Raila Odinga condemns Mandera killing

Opposition leader Raila Odinga flew to Mandera yesterday, where he asked for vigilance against social injustices and impunity. He condoled with the family of a woman whose body was discovered in a shallow grave.

Isnina Mohammed's body was found in a shallow grave in Arabia, 40 kilometres from Mandera town on Monday by locals. She was a trader in Mandera town and was reported to have gone missing last Thursday. Raila promised to liaise with the county government to ensure her six children completed their education. "Let this be an inspiration to those fighting impunity and social injustice," he said, adding: "One life lost to extra judicial killings is one life too many."

He later addressed county assembly members on the Okoa Kenya referendum initiative that among others seeks to increase funding to counties. He said the referendum will resolve the insecurity that has been witnessed in the region for a long time. Former Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim accused the government of marginalising the region.
