EACC summons 14 Bomet county officials

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has issued court summons to 14 Bomet County officials to appear before Kericho Magistrate Court Tuesday to face graft charges.

EACC Central Rift officer Gilbert Lukhoba said they obtained court summons after last week’s attempt to arrest the officials failed.

Lukhoba said the officials will be charged, following recommendation by Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko, over flawed procurement of ambulance services from Kenya Red cross.

Twelve County officials led by county executive in charge of health Dr Stanley Cheruiyot visited the EACC regional offices in Nakuru to record statements on Monday.

Lukhoba said the officials were served with the court summons to appear in court and processed by EACC detectives.

Former Chief Officer Finance Rose Kositany was served by EACC officers alongside head of procurement in Bomet town.

The county officials have been accused of flouting procurement regulations in a multimillion deal between the county and Kenya Red Cross in 2014 for six ambulances.

The ambulance services deal was the brain child of Governor Isaac Ruto who has defended the county officials involved in the tender award.
