Gor Mahia forward Kagere bags Player of the Month award

Gor Mahia forward Meddie Kagere has been named the SportPesa Player of the Month for September.

He becomes the third Gor Mahia player to clinch the award after Ali Abondo who won it in March and Karim Nzigiyimana who bagged the award in June winner.

Kagere beat Chemelil Sugar’s Meshack Karani and Ebrimah Sanneh of Nairobi City Stars in winning the award.

The Gor Mahia forward bagged the award after a good month where he scored four goals and provided two assists. He dedicated the award to his teammates.

“It is gratifying to be honoured this way. “I want to thank sports journalists and sponsors who have made this possible.

“Having said that, I also want to thank my teammates who have been supportive on the pitch. This kind of performance would not have been possible without them,” he said.

Kagere admitted that last month was great for him on the pitch.

“September has been a great month for me and I have worked very hard and the end results are visible now. I wanted to psyche myself up in all the games we were playing and I can say this is a good reward for it,” he added.

He said his focus now was ensuring that Gor Mahia finish the season unbeaten and he emerges the top scorer.

“My focus is still on ensuring that Gor Mahia finish the season unbeaten and we also fight to win other trophies apart from the league. There is also the desire to finish as one of the top scorers in the league and this remains a huge possibility,” he pointed out.
