Man killed, two injured after clash at grazing field

A man was yesterday killed and two others injured when herdsmen from Samburu and Turkana communities engaged in a gun battle at a grazing field.

Lokitoe Elman was killed after the two groups clashed, each accusing the other of being on a discreet mission to steal cows.

Samburu North sub-county commissioner Henry Katana confirmed the incident, saying the skirmishes began when cattle owned by Samburu herders started joining those owned by Turkana in a common grazing ground.

"A herder from Samburu ran towards the two different herds trying to stop them from mixing. The move caused suspicion among the Turkana who instantly thought the Samburu were trying to steal their herd," said Mr Katana.

In the ensuing clash, a 28-year-old man was also seriously injured and is now admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital. Also caught in the skirmishes was a 14 year-old boy from Barogoi Primary School.
