Armed gang raids bank and break ATM in Moyale Town

Police are investigating an incident in which suspected thugs raided a bank in Moyale Town and made away with unknown amount of money on Wednesday night.

The gang of four armed with G3 rifles vandalised an ATM of Kenya Commercial Bank in the town and stole the money that was there.

This was after they tried to break into a safe inside the bank in vain. Police say the gang had kidnapped two managers of the bank and forced them to open the safe.

According to the police, the gang went to the home of the bank’s operations manager and kidnapped her at gunpoint. They then went to the head of teller services’ house and also took him from there before proceeding to the bank.

At the bank, they tried to break into a safe that had unknown amount of money in vain.

“The two were forced to use passwords they usually use to open the safe and the teller machines but it failed to work. This forced the gang to break the teller machine,” said an officer who was on the ground.

They later escaped on foot with the money as police arrived there. A hunt on them is ongoing. No one was injured in the incident.

A bank official said the issue was under investigation and they did not have a comment to make.
