Kenya’s Audit Report: Government Press could not account for Sh700m

NAIROBI: The Auditor General report says the Government Press did not provide receipts to justify how close to Sh700 million was spent.

Examination of records maintained at the Government Press shows that the Fund received goods and services through Recurrent and Development Votes of Sh520.1 million and Sh116.1 million respectively.

The money was utilised in revenue generation through the purchase of printing /production papers, maintenance of printing/production machines, vehicles and employee compensations.

"However, these receipts and payments were not disclosed in the financial statements as required," says the report.

According to the statement of financial performance, it reflects that an amount of Sh271.7 million was incurred on printing and other materials.

However, the breakdown or analysis for this expenditure was not provided for audit review.

"In the circumstances, it was not possible to confirm the accuracy and propriety of the expenditure of Sh271.7 million.

The Auditor General wants the accounting officers to be accountable for their departments.

"I appeal to each Accounting Officer to address all the issues pertaining to their respective ministry/department as detailed," says the report.
