Governor Evans Kidero sets aside Sh500 million for education

Nairobi County government has allocated Sh500 million funding for construction and rehabilitation of city schools.

The money has been budgeted for by the county government for 2015-2016 financial year.

Governor Evans Kidero said his administration is realising the dream of devolution of government resources as it continues building and expanding infrastructure in the county.

"Our vision is to offer globally competitive, quality basic education and training for sustainable development. Our mission is to provide, promote and manage globally competitive basic education and training for the general welfare of Nairobi residents and their children," said Kidero.

He disclosed that the Education ministry and the county government would come up with guidelines on how to manage infrastructure in public institutions.

Kidero also pledged to refurbish the Raila Odinga Educational Centre in the informal settlement in Kibera, and allocated four acres of land for the construction of Fuata Nyayo Primary School, at a cost of Sh98 million.

This education facility is expected to serve the vulnerable children of Fuata Nyayo, Land Mawe and Viwandani.
