5 ways to burst out of your workout rut

Doing the same thing over and over can kill your morale to exercise especially if you have reached that point of stagnation. Here are a few things to consider to make your exercise more interesting but challenging at the same time.

1. Join a group: Go for a group workout like Zumba, aerobics, insanity and dance sessions, which are a little bit more fun and engaging. You are going to burn a lot of calories, your muscle tone and blood circulation will also improve. The dance moves will also help to increase your endurance, agility and flexibility. By the end of the sessions, the piled up tensions and stress will be relieved. Group workouts also provide that instant motivation unlike working out solo. Besides the workout, it also gives you that chance to bond with others.

2. Variety, variety: Try to vary your exercise routine now and then. This will help you exercise your body fully and at the same time kill monotony of doing the same old programme. When you vary your workout, you will be going beyond your fitness barriers that usually spike up every now and then. You will also be jumping over what we call hurdles of fitness plateaus. You will look more toned and your cardio will shoot up a notch. So how do you vary your routines? Incorporate a cardio circuit in your programme. Instead of enslaving yourself on a specific machine for hours day in day out, break the cycle by doing different machines. Try to limit yourself on each machine if you have a set time for your exercise programme in order to fully utilize or maximize their use. If there is a swimming pool near you, opt to do a few lengths for a total body workout. Walk up the stairs as often as possible.

3. Go outside: At least once in a while, have some outdoor activities like hiking or just playing in the park. There are so many games to choose from, from playing catch with your kids, jumping ropes or even nature trails. You can do this in the company of your colleagues, friends or even family members. The fun in it is what is going to make it more interesting.

4. House chores: Manually getting things in order at your place can help activate and work out some muscles in your body. Even if you have machines to do such kind of chores try as much as possible not to use them and get fully engaged manually. Things like dusting and cleaning your floor, walls, windows, washing clothes and utensils manually will help exercise your muscles from up way down your body.

5. Get creative: Your thrill and excitement to exercise should not only be confined in the gym, use the available resources you have and make your exercise more interesting.
