Burundian protester shot dead in clashes with police: witness

Burundian police shot dead a protester on Thursday in the capital Bujumbura's Musaga district, a witness said, as security forces battle to end anti-government demonstrations ongoing since late April.

The protester, angry at President Pierre Nkurunziza's bid for a third term in power, was shot in the back, the witness said.

After sporadic gunfire overnight Wednesday, protesters took the streets to resume demonstrations, chanting slogans and throwing stones at police, who responded with gunfire.
