A man found in possession of 32 rolls of bhang has denied that the drugs belonged to him.
Abdalla Mwana Japo was arrested on April 24 near Likoni ferry, allegedly trafficking bhang worth Sh6, 000 stuffed in a bag.
Japo, who is in his 70s, claimed he was set up by a neighbor’s son with whom they were crossing the ferry.
“The boy is a son to my neighbor Hamisi, and I know him. He asked me to hold the bag as he visited the washrooms. I had no reason to object. The police found the drugs when they searched me before boarding the ferry, but the boy has escaped by then,” said Japo.
The accused told the court that he suffers from ulcers and that he does not smoke or peddle bhang. He claimed the boy had planned to use him to traffic the bhang across to Likoni.
Japo added that: “The police have refused to believe my side of the story. At my age, I cannot be smoking or selling bhang. Why can’t they pursue this boy since we stay in the same neighborhood?”
