Indian envoy calls for enhanced trade with kenya

India’s High Commissioner to Kenya Yogeshwar Varma says his office is working with the Kenyan Government and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kncci) to enhance trade between the two countries.

He says there is an urgent need to bridge the trade imbalance between the two countries.

“There is a need for identifying good products of Kenya’s exports basket in Indian market because the trade is not balanced,” he says. The envoy spoke yesterday when he officially opened a three-day trade exhibition of Indian business, dubbed ‘India Expo’ at KICC.

The envoy said the Expo provides a platform for Kenyan companies to seek partnerships with Indian counterparts and also explore investment opportunities in Kenya.

The event, jointly sponsored by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) and India’s Ministry of Commerce comprises 70 member business delegation dealing with more than 200 product lines from across India including Automobile, Chemicals, Pharma, healthcare, construction industry, home furnishing, readymade garments and leather among others.
