Kenyans react to remarks by Interior Cabinet Secretary that Government is building a wall between Kenya and Somalia over terrorist attacks

Kenya: Erick Odhiambo: I want to advise the Cabinet Secretary that building a wall is not the solution to curbing terrorism in Mandera. What he should do is to beef up security by increasing the number of soldiers patrolling the Kenya-Somalia border.

Francis Mutua: I smell corruption. The Somalia border is over 800km long. Wastage of taxpayers’ money.

Joseph G Brown: Good idea. Israel has such a wall to keep Palestinians out.

Ngengi Waweru: Who won the tender?

Abdi Hussein: So if the wall is completed and there are still terror attacks, will you build till you reach the sky?

Ikki wa Ikkigham: You construct it today, terrorists bomb it tomorrow (while practising). I already feel insecure.

Lovness Lovely Lakenik: The Kenyan government can make a good movie series.

Joseph Ganga: That’s a waste of resources and a bad idea. You cannot build a wall on that long border. Get border patrol agents. This is something similar to the railway, and corruption is certainly the idea behind it.

Benson Aurah: It does not sound like a good idea. Nkaissery, having worked as a general in the army, is definitely expected to do better than this!

Romelo Ancira: This is more corruption in the offing. Why walls when it is easier to put up an electric fence?

Alfred Nyabena: Security is still a challenge for Kenya. Do away with corrupt officers first.

Jackline Mueni: Not unless God watches over us, those who ‘construct’ it labour in vain.

Mo Nyowilla: What is the use of the wall when corrupt officers will take bribes and allow them in?

Nimco Nux Adan: Very bad idea. If the Berlin Wall came down this will be nothing.
