World Bank grants Sh1b for water

Kenya: The Government's efforts to provide water to Kenyans have received a boost after the World Bank injected Sh1 billion through the Water Services Trust Fund programme.

The programme aimed at providing clean water to the poor has seen the Government set aside Sh400 million with development partners such as Sweden contributing Sh700 million, Germany Sh850 million, Danida Sh250 million and European Union Sh650 million.

Speaking during celebrations to mark World Water Day at Naromoru Primary in Kiserian, Kajiado, Environment Cabinet Secretary Judy Wakhungu said 647 water pans and 54 small dams have been completed at a cost of Sh3.5 billion, increasing water storage by 16 million cubic metres over the last one year.
