A Chase Bank employee has been charged with attempting to defraud the bank of Sh877,000. Jogu Ngige, a bank manager, was accused of defrauding the bank using an ATM card, which was subsequently used to withdraw money at various ATM outlets in Nairobi.

He was arraigned at Milimani Law Court yesterday and the case will be mentioned on March 19.

In a statement, the bank noted that its business was anchored in trust and thus, does not regret parting ways with staff who betray the ethical standards.

According to the 2011 fraud report by Deloitte, half of the Sh4.1 billion fraud cases affecting East African banks occurred in Kenya.
