After a thief called gossip site TMZ on February 27 to inform them that Lupita Nyong’o’s amazing Calvin Klein Oscar gown has been returned and the pearls were fake, more details are now surfacing if the dress was all a lie.
It was reported on Wednesday that Lupita’s famous dress was worth Sh13.5 million and was carrying 6,000 pearls.
The thief who returned the dress reported he had ripped off two of the pearls to sell it but was told the pearls weren’t genuine.
Latest reports from the police are now claiming a rep at Calvin Klein says they never told anyone if the pearls were fake or real.
TMZ reports that it was Lupita's stylist who informed them about the price of the gown.
The Women's Creative Director of Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa, explained to the site, “Did anyone ever say they were real from Calvin Klein? I always assumed everyone knew they were fake, but I guess not."
The source further adds, "Do they really make dresses out of real jewels since Cleopatra died?"
