Lesbian couple kicked out of women's toilet at cinema because security thought they were men

Tracey Seaton and her partner Keira Williams want Cineworld to train their staff after the "embarrassing" altercation in a London branch

A lesbian couple were kicked out of the ladies toilets at a cinema after a security guard mistook them for MEN.

Tracey Seaton and her partner Keira Williams had just finished watching Annie at a London branch of Cineworld when the pair decided to nip to the toilet on their way out.

However, the couple was left speechless after a security guard followed them in and forced them to leave after accusing them of being male.

Tracey, 28, said: "Just like most people, we went to the toilet after the film. It seems strange to say, but since we're women we went to the women's bathroom.

"But when we were washing our hands, this horrible guard came in and told us to get out. He said 'don't you know this is the women's bathroom.’

"I've never been so angry and embarrassed in my entire life. He was adamant we were in the wrong toilet, and kept insisting on it.

"It was shocking treatment - they definitely need to be more gay-friendly. We're never going back."

Lifeguard Tracey and bookie Keira, who have been together for seven months, were given £20 gift vouchers and two free tickets following the understanding at the Ilford, east London, branch of the chain.

The couple has decided to reject the offer, and instead is demanding Cineworld train its staff on dealing with situations like theirs.

Keira said: "It was quite intimidating, and the guard didn't even bother to apologise. This is the first time either of us have ever experienced anything like it. It's disgusting.”

The pair are now demanding a full investigation into the incident from the chain, who operate more than 800 screens across the UK.

Tracey said: "At the pool where I work, quite often people accidentally walk into the wrong changing room - but you don't have a go at them.

"Most people will correct their mistakes pretty quickly, and it's not for workers to decide the gender of customers based on their appearance.”

A Cineworld spokesperson said: "We are investigating the complaint and our customer services team is in touch with the customers involved.

"We have apologised for their experience and are taking on board their feedback."

The embarrassing incident comes after two gay men claim they were kicked out of a pub for kissing each other, while a different lesbian couple claim they heard a Tesco checkout worker say "all gays should die alone".
