A 1000 street crowned as Nairobi Senator Sonko rewards Gotv Koth Biro tournament finalists

Kaloleni-based A 1000 Street edged Nyoi FC 1-0 in the finals to lift the 38th edition of annual Gotv Koth Biro football tournament title at Umeme grounds, Ziwani, Nairobi, on Sunday.

Peter Juma netted the solitary goal for the Zablon 'Pro' Otieno coached side after getting a cross from Mathare United's Roy Samba's in the 56th minute.

A 1000 Street, were the better side in the finals compared to their opponents who showed signs of fatigue after playing their semifinals the previous day.

A 1000 street went close to scoring on four occasions with Tusker's Clifford Alwanga missing two clear chances including a bicycle kick while teammate Brian Osumba failed to tap home from goalmouth melee.

Nyoi also had a golden opportunity in the 63rd minute but Usher striker Hassan Mohammed failed to score after beating the offside trap only to blast over the bar.

Pumwani FC bagged the tournament's third place following Borusia FC's disqualification for causing chaos in their semifinal contest against eventual winners A 1000 Street.

Hansen Ochieng' of Black Mamba FC emerged the top scorer with five goals while Tusker FC's Farouk Shikalo, who featured for Nyoi, bagged the best goalkeeper award.

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko awarded the winners of the annual Gotv Koth Biro football tournament. 

Sonko awarded A 1000 Streets with Sh100,000 for lifting the tournament title.

Hosts Nyoi pocketed Sh75,000 from the Senator for emerging runners up while Pumwani FC got Sh50,000 for their third place finish. Sponsors, Gotv, also awarded similar amounts to the teams.

Sonko, who was the chief guest in the hotly contested finals, assured his support for the annual tournament that has produced  players like former Harambee Stars captain Musa Otieno, France based striker Dennis Oliech, Southampton's  Victor Wanyama and  MacDonald Mariga among others.

"I want to thank the organisers for working day and night to ensure the tournament's success. I will always be here to support you every year," Sonko told the organisers.

While urging the youths to take sports seriously Sonko noted : "This tournament will help you spend your time productively every festive season. Participating in this kind of tournament will help you discover your talents. Other like minded leaders like me are ready to give you support to take your talent to the next level."
